The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved playing padel with her dad at the park near the old stone pool. The pool had been empty for years, or so everyone said. But Lily knew better.

One hot afternoon, Lily's ball bounced over the stone wall and disappeared. She climbed over to fetch it and gasped. The empty pool was filled with sparkling blue water! And resting on a dry stone island in the center was a golden sphinx.

"You found my secret pool," the sphinx purred, stretching her magnificent wings. "I am Cleopatra, guardian of the Magic Waters. But I have a problem."

Lily's eyes widened. "What's wrong?"

Cleopatra sighed, and her golden hair drooped sadly. "My magical hair needs special star vitamins to stay shiny. But the star vitamins only appear when someone plays happily nearby. I've been lonely for so long."

Lily's heart went out to the lonely sphinx. "I can help!" she said. "Every day after school, I'll play padel by your pool. My friends can too!"

True to her word, Lily returned every day with her padel racket. She played happily, laughing as the ball bounced against the wall. Sometimes her friends joined in.

Within a week, tiny glowing stars appeared around the pool. Cleopatra's hair began to shimmer like sunset.

"The star vitamins!" she exclaimed joyfully. "Your friendship is creating magic!"

But then the weather turned rainy. For three days, Lily couldn't play. Cleopatra's hair started to dull.

"I can still come!" Lily declared. She brought her padel racket and played in the shelter of a nearby tree, imagining wonderful shots.

Even without the real ball, her happy spirit kept the star vitamins flowing. Cleopatra's hair glowed brighter than ever.

"True magic isn't just about playing," the sphinx said wisely. "It's about showing up, even when it's hard. That's real friendship."

Lily learned that some friendships are worth keeping, no matter what. And every day after school, you could hear the happy sounds of padel near the magic pool, where a little girl and a sphinx remained best friends forever.
