The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved exploring the old beach behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she found something amazing—a giant golden sphinx sleeping near the sparkling water! His wings shimmered like sunset, and his lion tail twitched in his dreams.

The sphinx opened one emerald eye. "Hello, little one," he rumbled softly. "I haven't had a visitor in three hundred years."

Lily's eyes widened. "I'm Lily! Why are you sleeping here?"

The sphinx sighed, his wings drooping. "I'm guarding something precious, but I'm so lonely. No one wants to be friends with a sphinx."

"I'll be your friend!" Lily exclaimed. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her favorite treat—a bright orange from her grandmother's tree. "Want to share?"

The sphinx's eyes lit up. "I've never tasted an orange!"

As they peeled the orange together, sweet juice dripped onto their fingers. The sphinx's laughter rumbled like gentle thunder. Then he pointed toward the water. "I was guarding that," he said shyly.

Lily looked and gasped. A magical orange cable stretched across the water, glowing with golden light. When she touched it, she could hear laughter from somewhere far away.

"It's a Friendship Cable," the sphinx explained. "It connects lonely hearts across the world. But I was too afraid to use it."

Lily grabbed the sphinx's paw. "Let's try together!"
