The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily built her pyramid in the sandbox, careful to make each side perfectly straight. She'd been working all afternoon, and now the golden sand pyramid sparkled in the sunset. But something strange happened when she added the final touch — a small stone sphinx she'd made.

The sphinx's eyes opened! They glowed like tiny stars.

"You've built my home," said the sphinx, whose name was Cleo. "Will you be my friend?"

Lily's heart fluttered like a butterfly. "Yes! But how will we play?"

Cleo smiled mysteriously. "Follow me!"

The sphinx led Lily to the garden, where a thick cable stretched between two trees. Lily had never noticed it before.

"This is the Wonder Cable," Cleo explained. "It connects our world to magical places. But we must be quiet. We're going to be spies — but not the sneaky kind. We're Wonder Spies!"

Lily giggled. "What do Wonder Spies do?"

"We spy amazing things!" Cleo whispered. "Watch."

Suddenly, the cable began to shimmer. Through it, Lily saw glimpses of incredible places: whales singing underwater, flowers blooming in fast-forward, stars being born in purple clouds.

"Each night," Cleo said softly, "the pyramid collects all the world's wonder. And I guard it. But I've never had anyone to share it with."

Lily understood. Cleo wasn't just a magical creature — she was lonely. The sphinx had been guarding beautiful things all by herself.

"We can be Wonder Spies together," Lily promised. "Every day, I'll come help you collect the magic."

Cleo's stone face softened into something almost human. "I'd like that very much."

And so, each afternoon, Lily would run to her sand pyramid, where Cleo waited. Together, they'd spy on the world's wonders through the magic cable, gathering stories and sharing secrets about the most beautiful things in the universe.
