The Sphinx's Secret Court

Lily was running through Maplewood Park, her backpack bouncing against her shoulders. She'd stayed late at school to finish her art project, and the sun was already painting the sky in shades of orange and pink.

She took her usual shortcut past the old tennis courts, but today something caught her eye. Behind the overgrown bushes near the back fence, something glimmered. Curious, Lily pushed through the leaves and discovered a padel court she'd never seen before—but this wasn't like any sports court she knew.

The court glowed with soft purple light, and standing in the center was a small sphinx, no bigger than a cat. It had the body of a fluffy golden lion, tiny wings that sparkled like diamonds, and wise eyes that twinkled like stars.

"You found my secret court!" the sphinx said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone special to play with."

"You're a sphinx!" Lily gasped. "And you have a padel court?"

The sphinx giggled. "I'm Sparkle, guardian of magical games. This isn't ordinary padel—when we play, every hit makes something beautiful appear. Want to try?"

Lily's heart raced with excitement as Sparkle handed her a racquet that felt warm, like it was alive. They started playing, and with every hit, the ball burst into colorful butterflies, flowers, or tiny stars that floated around them.

They were running across the court, laughing and playing, when the ball suddenly turned into a magnificent golden butterfly that landed on Lily's nose.

"You're wonderful at this!" Sparkle said. "Most children run away when they see me. They think sphinxes only give scary riddles. But you stayed. You played. You made something beautiful."

Lily smiled. "My mom says making friends is the best adventure of all."

Sparkle's wings shimmered. "She's right. This court appears only for brave, kind hearts. Come back anytime, Lily. We have many more magical games to play."

As Lily walked home, the golden butterfly followed her all the way, glowing softly in the twilight. She knew tomorrow, after school, she'd be running back to the secret court for another adventure with her magical friend.
