The Sphinx's Secret Cable

Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every summer day, she'd splash in the crystal-blue lake behind her house, pretending she was a mermaid exploring underwater kingdoms.

One particularly hot afternoon, Lily dove deeper than ever before. Through the shimmering water, she spotted something glimmering at the bottom of the lake. She swam down and found an old, rusted cable attached to a mysterious golden chest.

Curious, Lily gave the cable a gentle tug. Suddenly, bubbles swirled around her, and the water began to glow. When the bubbles cleared, a magnificent sphinx rose from the lake floor! Its lion body shimmered like pearls, and its human face smiled kindly.

"Brave swimmer," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle waves, "you've found my secret cable. For one hundred years, I've guarded the treasure of memories – children's happiest moments stored safely underwater."

Lily's eyes widened. "Why keep them underwater?"

"Because swimming is when children feel most free," the sphinx explained. "Their joy bubbles up like magic!" She showed Lily the chest, and inside, thousands of glowing memories swirled – first bike rides, birthday surprises, discoveries, and adventures.

"But some memories are lonely," the sphinx added softly. "Children who are too afraid to try new things never create new bubbles of joy."

Lily thought of her friend Sam, who never learned to swim because he was afraid of the water. "Could you help him?"

The sphinx smiled. "Only if he's brave enough to try. But you could be his courage."

The next day, Lily brought Sam to the lake. With the sphinx watching, Lily taught him to blow bubbles, kick his legs, and trust the water. When Sam finally swam his first stroke, a beautiful golden bubble floated from him and joined the others in the sphinx's chest.

"The real treasure," the sphinx whispered, "isn't stored memories. It's making new ones together."

That summer, Lily and Sam swam every day, creating countless new bubbles of joy. And sometimes, if they looked carefully, they could see the sphinx smiling beneath the waves, her cable gently glowing, guarding the most precious treasure of all – friendship and勇敢, the courage to try something new.
