The Sphinx's Secret Bridge

In the golden desert of Egypt, young Lily discovered something amazing. Behind the great stone pyramid, a tiny sphinx sat watching her. Unlike the big stone one, this sphinx was no bigger than a cat, with sparkling emerald eyes.

"Hello," whispered Lily, her heart thumping with excitement.

The sphinx stretched its wings—wings Lily hadn't noticed before. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me," it said in a voice like wind chimes. "My brother is trapped across the Quick River, and I cannot reach him."

Lily peered through the desert heat. Far away, another tiny sphinx sat alone on a rock, looking sad. Between them rushed the Quick River, its water swirling impossibly fast.

"I can help!" Lily cried, but then her shoulders slumped. "But how? There's no bridge."

Just then, Farmer Ahmed's bull plodded by, carrying a heavy wooden cable on his back. The bull's name was Buster, and he was the friendliest bull in all of Egypt.

"Excuse me, Buster," Lily called, waving. "Could your cable help build a bridge?"

Buster blinked his gentle brown eyes and mooed happily. He understood! With Lily guiding him, Buster dragged the cable across the sandy ground.

"Wait!" Lily gasped. "The cable is too short!"

The little sphinx thought hard. Its emerald eyes glowed brighter. "The water," it said suddenly. "The Quick River's water is magic. It can stretch anything pure and kind."

Lily dipped the cable into the rushing water. Sparkles floated up around it. The cable began to grow longer and longer, shimmering with rainbow colors!

Together, Lily and Buster stretched the magical cable across the river. It became a glittering bridge, strong enough for a tiny sphinx but too light for anyone heavy.

The sphinx danced across joyfully. "Thank you!" both sphinxes called together, and they flew into the sky, leaving behind a trail of sparkles that turned into real stars.

"Wow," whispered Lily, patting Buster's soft nose. "Friends helping friends makes magic happen."

That night, Lily fell asleep smiling, knowing that kindness was the greatest magic of all.
