The Sphinx's Secret

Lily loved exploring the old museum after school. Her favorite spot was the dusty Egyptian room, where a small stone sphinx sat on a pedestal. Its lion body and human face looked sad, like it was waiting for something.

One Tuesday, Lily noticed something strange. The sphinx's stone tears had left tiny puddles on the floor. She reached out to touch them, and the water glowed blue!

"Hello, little friend," a voice whispered. Lily jumped. The sphinx's eyes were open!

"You can talk?" she gasped.

"Only when water touches my tears," the sphinx said. "I am Cleo, cursed by a jealous pharaoh 3,000 years ago. I can only wake when someone true-hearted shares their water with me."

Lily's eyes widened. She dug into her backpack and pulled out her water bottle. "Will this work?"

Cleo nodded. Lily poured a few drops onto the stone tears. Suddenly, the sphinx transformed into a golden creature, no longer stone but real! She stretched her lion paws and smiled.

"Thank you, friend!" Cleo's voice rang like bells. "You saved me!"

"But... aren't you lonely here?" Lily asked.

Cleo's ears drooped. "Very. But now I have you."

Lily had an idea. "Come home with me! My grandma's garden has a fountain. You can live there!"

Every day after school, Lily visited Cleo. They played hide-and-seek among the roses, and Cleo told amazing stories about ancient Egypt. The other neighborhood children soon discovered their secret, and Cleo became everyone's friend.

Lily learned that the best magic isn't in museums or ancient curses. It's in kindness, friendship, and sharing something as simple as water with someone who needs it.

And sometimes, the most wonderful friends are the ones you find when you least expect them—even in a dusty old museum room.
