The Sphinx's Riddle Game
Lily found the old top hat in her grandmother's attic, dusty and mysterious. When she put it on, the hat began to glow!
"Who dares to wear my magical hat?" a voice rumbled. Suddenly, a tiny sphinx no bigger than a kitten appeared, sitting on Lily's palm. The sphinx had golden fur and wise, twinkling eyes.
"I'm Lily!" she gasped. "Are you... real?"
"As real as your imagination," the sphinx purred. "I am Zara, keeper of riddles. Answer my three questions, and you'll see something wonderful."
Lily nodded eagerly. She loved riddles!
"First," said Zara, "what has a face but no eyes, hands but no arms?"
Lily thought hard. Then she snapped her fingers. "A clock!"
"Correct!" Zara's whiskers twitched with approval. "Second: what can you catch but cannot throw?"
"A cold!" Lily laughed.
"Perfect!" Zara's eyes sparkled. "Last: what has keys but opens no locks?"
Lily's mom had just given her her very first iPhone yesterday. "A piano!"
"Incredible!" Zara leaped from Lily's palm and did a happy flip. "You have won!
The sphinx touched the magical hat with her paw. POOF! The attic transformed into a beautiful baseball field filled with stars. Fireflies danced like players running bases. The moon beamed like a giant scoreboard.
"This is my world," Zara said softly. "But I was lonely until you came. Will you visit again?"
"Every day!" Lily promised, hugging her new friend tight.
That night, Lily learned that magic isn't about spells or potions—it's about friendship, kindness, and keeping your heart open to wonder. And whenever she wore her magical hat, Zara was there, ready for another adventure.
