The Sphinx's Riddle Friends
Luna was no ordinary cat. She was golden as sunrise, with eyes like two tiny moons. One afternoon, while chasing butterflies in the garden, she wandered through a mysterious mist and found herself in a land of ancient wonders.
Before her stood a great stone sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a wise creature. The sphinx's eyes twinkled like stars.
"Welcome, little cat," the sphinx rumbled gently. "I have guarded this desert for three thousand years, but I have never been so lonely."
Luna curtsied with her tail. "I'm Luna!" she meowed bravely. "Why are you lonely?"
"Because everyone is afraid of my riddles," the sphinx sighed. "They think I'm a trickster, but I only want to play."
Suddenly, a scruffy puppy named Pip tumbled out of the mist. He was a dog with one floppy ear and a heart full of courage. Luna's instincts made her want to scamper up a tree, but something about Pip's goofy smile made her stay.
"Whoa! A giant lion statue!" Pip barked happily. "I'm Pip! Can we play?"
The sphinx smiled—a rare and wonderful sight. "Ah, a brave dog and a clever cat! Perhaps you can answer my riddle: What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"
Luna and Pip looked at each other. Luna's whiskers twitched with thought. Pip's tail wagged with excitement.
"Is it... a shadow?" Pip guessed.
"Is it... a story?" Luna wondered.
The sphinx shook their great head. "No, little friends. Try again!"
Together, the cat and dog put their heads together. They remembered how puppies crawl, how they walk, and how old ones need canes.
"It's a PERSON!" they shouted together.
The sphinx laughed—a sound like desert wind through palm trees. "Correct! You two didn't argue or compete. You worked as friends. That is the greatest wisdom of all."
From that day on, the sphinx was never lonely again. And Luna and Pip learned something magical: the best adventures are the ones we share with friends who are different from us, because together we can solve any riddle in the world.
