The Sphinx's Padel Match
Emma loved her iPhone more than anything. She spent every afternoon tapping and swiping, barely noticing the world outside her window. Until the day a golden sphinx appeared among the palm trees in her backyard.
"I am Zara," the sphinx purred, her emerald eyes sparkling like stars. "I challenge you to a game of padel. If you win, you'll discover a treasure worth more than all the apps in the world."
Emma's eyes widened. "But I don't know how to play padel!"
"That," Zara smiled mysteriously, "is precisely why you must play."
In the magical space between the palm trees, a padel court shimmered into existence. The sphinx handed Emma a racquet that felt warm, like holding a sunbeam.
They played. At first, Emma missed every ball. Her iPhone-addicted fingers fumbled with the racquet. But Zara was patient, coaching her with riddles instead of instructions.
"To hit the ball true," Zara called out, "you must first believe in you!"
Something shifted inside Emma. She stopped thinking about her high score in Candy Crush and started feeling the wind in her hair, the thud of the ball against her racquet, the laugh bubbling in her throat.
"What's the treasure?" Emma asked after winning her first point.
Zara's eyes glowed. "The treasure is already yours—you've found the magic of PLAY."
Emma looked at her palm, still tingling from the racquet's warmth. She realized the sphinx was right. Her iPhone had never made her feel this alive, this present, this wonderfully free.
"Thank you, Zara," Emma whispered.
But when she looked up, the sphinx had vanished, leaving only a single golden feather floating among the palm fronds. Emma picked it up, knowing she would never forget the day she learned that the best games aren't played on screens, but in the magical space between imagination and friendship.
From that day forward, Emma still used her iPhone sometimes. But she also spent every afternoon behind the palm trees, racquet in hand, ready for whatever magical adventures awaited.
