The Sphinx's Orange Secret

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic. Rain drummed on the roof as she opened a creaky wooden trunk. Inside lay something she'd never seen before — an ancient scroll tied with a bright orange ribbon.

She unrolled it and gasped. The paper glowed with golden drawings of a mysterious creature. It was a sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a wise owl. The Sphinx sat atop a mountain, guarding something that sparkled like tiny stars.

"Take one journey, find one friend, and help them learn," the scroll read. "Then you'll discover the treasure that never ends."

Lily's heart fluttered. Where could she find such a creature? She ran to the window and saw something amazing — the backyard oak tree had transformed! Its leaves shimmered orange and gold, and perched on the highest branch sat a small sphinx no bigger than a cat.

Lily hurried outside. The sphinx blinked its large, golden eyes.

"I've been waiting," it said in a voice like wind chimes. "But first, you must help my friend."

The sphinx pointed to a sad little squirrel sitting on a branch nearby. The squirrel's fur had lost its shine, and it looked very tired.

"My friend hasn't been eating the special orange berries that grow in our garden," the sphinx explained. "Each berry contains something magical — a tiny bit of sunshine in the form of a vitamin that gives energy and strength."

Lily understood! Her mom had told her about vitamins in fruits and vegetables. She gathered the brightest orange berries and offered them to the squirrel. As the squirrel munched happily, its fur grew fluffy again, and it jumped and played with newfound joy.

"Thank you!" the squirrel squeaked. "You've taught me that taking care of my body makes everything more fun!"

The sphinx nodded approvingly. "You've found a friend and helped them learn. Now, choose your treasure."

It opened its wing to reveal a pouch of magical orange berries. "These will give you energy for adventure, creativity for dreaming, and kindness for helping others. But the real treasure is what's in your heart already — the wish to make the world better."

Lily smiled, took the pouch, and hugged the sphinx. She had discovered that the greatest magic wasn't in berries or vitamins at all. It was in helping friends and learning together.

That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of orange sunrises and golden adventures, knowing she could find magic anywhere she looked with kindness in her heart.
