The Sphinx's Orange River

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden. It had secret corners and magical flowers that seemed to whisper her name. But one rainy afternoon, she found something she'd never seen before — a tiny sphinx carved from amber stone, no bigger than her palm.

The sphinx's eyes glowed like warm sunlight. "I am Cleo," it said in a voice like wind chimes. "And I need your help."

Lily's heart beat faster. "Help with what?"

"The Orange River has stopped flowing," Cleo explained. "Without it, the Lightning Kingdom will fade away. Will you come with me?"

Before Lily could answer, the sphinx grew to the size of a cat. Lily climbed onto its back, and suddenly they were soaring through the sky on a beam of orange light!

They arrived at a magical land where everything glowed. Trees had silver bark, rivers flowed with sparkling orange water, and clouds made of cotton candy drifted overhead. But the river was dry, and the lightning that usually danced across the sky was gone.

"We must swim to the source," Cleo said. "But there's a problem. The riverbed is guarded by Grumble, the Cloud Bull."

Lily wasn't afraid. She grabbed Cleo's paw, and together they slid down the dry riverbed like it was a magical slide. At the end, they found the biggest, fluffiest bull Lily had ever seen — his fur was made of storm clouds!

"No one passes!" Grumble rumbled, but his voice sounded sad.

"Why are you sad?" Lily asked gently.

"Everyone thinks I'm scary," the bull sighed. "I just want to make friends. But every time I get excited, lightning shoots from my horns, and everyone runs away."

Lily smiled. "That's not scary — that's AMAZING! You're the guardian of the Lightning Kingdom!"

Grumble's eyes widened. "Really?"

"Really!" said Cleo. "We need your lightning to start the Orange River again. Will you help us?"

For the first time, Grumble smiled. He tapped his hooves together, and beautiful lightning bolts shot out, striking the dry riverbed. Instantly, sparkling orange water began to flow!

"You did it!" Lily cheered. The bull was so happy he jumped, sending rainbow lightning across the sky.

Cleo grew small again and curled up in Lily's pocket. "Thank you, Lily. You saw Grumble not as a monster, but as a friend. That's the greatest magic of all."

That night, Lily fell asleep wondering what other adventures awaited — and if somewhere, a cloud bull was watching the lightning dance, happy to have found a friend.
