The Sphinx's Orange River
Lily was running through the Enchanted Forest, her bare feet padding softly on the mossy ground. She was looking for the legendary Sphinx who guarded the magical Orange River. Her grandmother had told her stories about it—a river of sparkling orange water that could grant one wish to anyone pure of heart.
As she rounded a giant oak tree, Lily saw it. The Sphinx sat atop a mossy stone, its golden wings folded gracefully. But this Sphinx wasn't scary like in the old stories. Its eyes twinkled like stars, and it wore a flower crown made of daisies.
"Hello, little one," the Sphinx purred kindly. "I've been waiting for someone like you."
Lily approached bravely. "I seek the Orange River. My baby brother is sick, and the magical water could help him feel better."
The Sphinx smiled, and behind it, something shuffled forward. Lily gasped—it looked like a zombie, but not a scary one. This creature was made of sand and seashells, with seaweed hair and a friendly smile.
"This is Sandy," the Sphinx explained. "He's a beach zombie, made from magical sand. He'll guide you to the river."
Sandy gurgled happily and waved for Lily to follow. Together they walked until they reached it—a stream of glowing orange water that smelled like sunshine and citrus dreams.
"Remember," the Sphinx called gently, "the true magic isn't in the water. It's in the love that brings you here."
Lily filled her small bottle with the orange water. She thanked Sandy and the Sphinx, then ran back home, her heart full of hope. When her brother drank the water, he smiled for the first time in days.
Lily learned that day that magic exists everywhere—in kindness, in friendship, and in the love that makes us brave enough to run toward our dreams.
