The Sphinx's Orange Puzzle
Lily loved adventures, especially the kind she found in books. But she never expected to find one in her own backyard.
One sunny afternoon, her fluffy golden dog Buster started barking at something behind the old oak tree. Lily ran over and gasped. There, curled up on a mossy stone, was a small sphinx with sparkly purple wings and kind eyes.
"Hello, young adventurer," the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to solve my riddle."
Lily's eyes widened. "A real sphinx? Like in stories?"
The sphinx nodded, and as it moved, something curious happened—its long golden hair shimmered like sunshine, changing from blonde to bright orange and back again.
"I'm Princess Aurora of the Magical Realms," she explained. "I was cursed by a grumpy wizard. He trapped me in this small form until someone pure of heart could answer my riddle correctly."
Buster wagged his tail excitedly.
"What's the riddle?" Lily asked, feeling brave.
The sphinx smiled. "I am bright as sunshine, sweet as candy. I have skin but no bones, and I wear my jacket on the inside. What am I?"
Lily thought hard. She looked at the sphinx's orange hair and suddenly it clicked.
"An orange!" she exclaimed. "The fruit!"
The sphinx clapped her hands joyfully. Suddenly, golden light surrounded her. She grew taller, her wings expanded, and her orange hair flowed like a river of sunset.
"You saved me!" Aurora cried, giving Lily a gentle hug. "For your kindness and cleverness, I grant you one wish."
Lily thought for a moment. "I wish for you to visit us anytime, and for Buster to always have adventures."
Aurora laughed. "Granted! And I'll even teach your dog to speak—in sphinx language, of course!"
From that day on, Lily, Buster, and Princess Aurora had wonderful adventures together. Lily learned that the best magic comes from kindness, courage, and true friendship—and sometimes, the most ordinary things, like a simple orange, can hold extraordinary magic.
