The Sphinx's Orange Pool

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the backyard where the old palm trees swayed like dancing giants. One afternoon, while chasing a butterfly near the garden pool, she noticed something extraordinary.

The pool wasn't filled with ordinary water. It shimmered with the most beautiful orange glow, as if someone had poured liquid sunshine right into the ground. Curious, Lily stepped closer. That's when she saw him—a small, golden sphinx perched on the pool's edge, no bigger than her cat.

"Greetings, young one," the sphinx purred, his emerald eyes twinkling like stars. "I've been waiting for someone with hair as wild and free as yours."

Lily giggled. Her messy brown curls always stuck out in every direction!

"I am Cleo, guardian of the Wish Pool," the sphinx explained. "But my magic has grown weak. I need a friend with imagination to help restore it."

He fluttered his tiny wings, and an orange flower bloom from the palm tree beside them. "You see, this pool grants wishes, but only to those who believe in the impossible."

Lily's eyes widened. "Really? What kind of wishes?"

"Wishes that make the world more wonderful," Cleo said. "But first, you must solve my riddle."

Lily nodded bravely.

"I have a pool but no water, orange but no fruit, hair but no head, and palm but no hand. What am I?"

Lily thought hard, her brow scrunching up. Then it clicked! "A dream!"

Cleo's wings fluttered with delight. "Correct! You see with your heart, not just your eyes."

He touched his paw to the orange pool, and suddenly, the water swirled with magic. "Make your wish, dear friend."

Lily closed her eyes and made her wish. When she opened them, the garden had transformed. Orange sparkles danced in the air, the palm trees now bore magical fruit that made anyone who ate them laugh uncontrollably, and best of all—Cleo was now life-sized!

"Thank you for believing in magic," the sphinx said, nuzzling her hand. "Remember, the real magic was inside you all along. You just needed to trust your imagination."

From that day on, Lily knew that the most wonderful adventures begin with an open heart and a curious mind. And whenever she visited Grandma's backyard, the orange pool still shimmered, waiting for the next dreamer to discover its magic.
