The Sphinx's Ocean Garden
Lily pushed the green spinach around her plate, making a face. 'I hate spinach!' she declared. Her grandma just smiled and sprinkled glittery dust on the leaves. 'This spinach comes from the magic garden beneath the sea. One bite, and you can swim underwater all day long.' Lily's eyes widened. She took a tiny bite. suddenly, she felt light as a bubble! When she looked in the mirror, gills appeared on her neck. She ran to the beach and dove into the waves. Down she swam, deeper and deeper, past colorful coral and darting fish. Something huge and golden loomed ahead—a sphinx with emerald eyes and fur made of seaweed! 'I've been waiting for you,' the sphinx said in a voice like bubbles. 'My ocean garden is dying. Only someone who ate the magic spinach can save it.' Lily's heart raced. 'What do I do?' 'Spinach seeds! They're hidden in the darkest cave. But beware the shadow crabs!' The sphinx handed her a glowing pearl for light. Lily swam bravely into the darkness. Shadow crabs scuttled around her, but she remembered her grandma's words: 'Courage grows from trying.' She gathered the seeds and planted them in the sandy garden beds. Magically, green leaves sprouted instantly! The sphinx beamed. 'You saved my home!' She wrapped a tentacle around Lily in a hug. 'Come back anytime, my friend.' Lily swam back to shore, tired but happy. At dinner, she smiled at her spinach. 'Grandma, can I have seconds?' From that day on, Lily learned that the things we think we dislike might just be the beginning of our greatest adventures.
