The Sphinx's New Friend

Lily's pet goldfish, Finny, was no ordinary fish. He swam in circles around his glass castle, but his golden scales shimmered like tiny stars. One rainy afternoon, Lily discovered something magical—the old television cable behind her bookshelf glowed with a soft blue light.

"What do you suppose that is?" she whispered to Finny. To her astonishment, Finny swam right up to the glass and nodded!

Lily touched the cable, and suddenly she could hear Finny's voice in her mind. "It's a friendship cable!" said Finny. "It connects magical creatures who need help. And someone is calling us right now."

The cable pulled them through a swirling rainbow tunnel, landing them in a misty garden where a stone sphinx sat crying great crystal tears. "I've forgotten my riddle!" the sphinx sobbed. "For three hundred years, travelers have answered my riddles to pass my garden. But now I can't remember even one!"

Lily's heart went out to the lonely sphinx. "Maybe we can help you remember."

"But how?" Finny asked, swimming through the air beside her thanks to the magic cable's power.

"Goldfish have wonderful memories," said Lily thoughtfully. "Finny, could you help the sphinx remember?"

Finny swam around the sphinx's stone head, leaving trails of golden sparkles. "Close your eyes," he said gently. "Think back to when you were young."

The sphinx closed her eyes. The cable connecting Lily and Finny glowed brighter. Suddenly, the sphinx's eyes flew open! "I remember! I have the best riddle of all!"

She stood up tall and proud: "What has a heart but no beating, runs but has no feet, and brings friends together even when they're far apart?"

Lily gasped. "The cable! The friendship cable!"

"Correct!" cheered the sphinx, her stone face beaming. "You've given me back my purpose—and three new friends!"

The sphinx still guards her garden today, but now she has two very special friends who visit every weekend. Lily learned that sometimes the best magic comes from helping others remember what makes them special.

And Finny? He's still the most clever goldfish in all the world, but he'll tell you the best treasure isn't gold—it's friendship.
