The Sphinx's Midnight Swim

Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every night, she would close her eyes tight and imagine she was swimming through starlight, dipping her toes into glittering galaxies.

One Tuesday, something magical happened. As Lily was swimming in her bathtub, she noticed the water had turned purple and sparkly. Before she could say "bubblegum," she was swimming THROUGH her bathroom wall and right into the sky!

"Whoa!" Lily giggled, doing backstrokes through cotton-candy clouds.

Ahead of her floated something amazing — a golden pyramid, but it was UPSIDE DOWN, pointing toward the earth like a giant shiny ice cream cone. Inside the pyramid's pointy tip sat a small, grumpy sphinx.

The sphinx had the fluffy paws of a kitten, tiny wings that shimmered like rainbows, and the saddest face Lily had ever seen.

"Go away!" the sphinx sniffled. "I'm supposed to ask you a riddle, but I'm terrible at them. Everyone laughs at me."

Lily stopped swimming and floated closer. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"

"Squeakers," said the sphinx, and he let out a tiny sneeze.

"Squeakers, I don't know any riddles either," Lily said warmly. "Want to just splash around instead?"

Squeakers' golden eyes widened. "Really? Nobody ever wants to play with me. They all want answers."

For hours, they swam through the upside-down pyramid, playing tag among floating treasures — golden coins that sang when you touched them, books that read themselves aloud, and jars that held captured rainbows.

"This is the best night ever!" Squeakers chirped, doing a happy spin. "I learned something important, Lily."

"What's that?" Lily asked, splashing him gently.

"Friendship isn't about being clever or knowing all the answers," Squeakers said. "It's about showing up and splashing together."

Lily smiled, her heart feeling warm and bubbly. "That's the best riddle I've ever heard."

As dawn approached, Squeakers gave Lily a special gift — a tiny golden pyramid that would always glow when she needed a friend.

"Visit me anytime!" Squeakers called. "We'll go swimming in the stars!"

Lily woke up in her bed, the little pyramid glowing softly on her nightstand. She giggled, knowing that the best adventures begin with an open heart — and maybe a little bit of magic.
