The Sphinx's Midnight Pool
Lily couldn't sleep. The moonlight spilled through her window like liquid silver, calling her outside. She followed it down the stairs and into the backyard, where something magical happened.
Behind the old oak tree, where there was usually just grass, a shimmering blue pool appeared. Its water glowed with tiny stars, and floating in the center was the most curious creature Lily had ever seen — a small sphinx with emerald wings and golden fur.
"You found me!" the sphinx squeaked happily. "I'm Cleo, the guardian of the Midnight Pool. Would you like to see what makes this water special?"
Lily nodded, her eyes wide.
Celo reached into her pouch and pulled out four glowing crystals. "These are starlight vitamins," she explained. "One bite, and you'll float like a cloud. Two bites, and you'll glow like fireflies. Three bites, and you can swim through dreams!"
Lily took one crystal. It tasted like strawberries and sunshine. Suddenly, she felt light as a feather. She stepped into the pool, but instead of sinking, she floated on the surface!
"Now for the best part," Cleo said. "Try swimming!"
Lily began swimming through the magical water, and with every stroke, the pool transformed. The water turned into a tunnel of rainbow colors. Fish made of stardust swam beside her. Moonbeams became slides she could glide down.
Cleo joined her, and together they explored underwater caves filled with singing pearls and meadows of sea flowers that hummed gentle melodies.
"This pool appears only for children who believe in magic," Cleo whispered. "And the starlight vitamins help you see what's always been there, waiting for you to notice."
They played until dawn approached. As the first sunbeam touched the garden, Cleo pressed another crystal into Lily's hand. "For when you need magic again. Just remember — the most wonderful adventures are the ones you share with friends."
The pool faded like mist, but Lily's heart stayed full of magic. She knew that somewhere, behind the oak tree, Cleo was waiting, and the midnight pool would always return when she needed a friend.
