The Sphinx's Magical Riddle
Lily loved her fluffy orange cat, Marmalade, more than anything in the world. Every afternoon, they would explore the woods behind her house, looking for fairies and magic.
One sunny day, they found something extraordinary—an ancient stone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a wise human. "A sphinx!" Lily gasped. She had read about these magical creatures in her storybooks.
The sphinx's eyes suddenly twinkled like stars. "Young adventurer," it rumbled gently, "I have been asleep for a thousand years. Will you help me remember something important?"
Lily nodded eagerly. Marmalade purred and rubbed against the stone paw.
"In my time," the sphinx continued, "there lived a friendly zombie who tended the magical garden. He wasn't scary at all—he had green skin and a gentle smile, and he made the most beautiful flowers grow. But he was very sad because he had no hair, and everyone laughed at him."
Lily felt sad for the zombie. "That's not nice! Hair doesn't matter—what's inside is what counts."
The sphinx smiled. "Exactly, young one. One day, a magical fairy gave the zombie hair made of spun moonlight and rainbow threads. It shimmered and changed color with his mood. When he was happy, it was pink. When he was thoughtful, it turned deep blue."
Marmalade meowed softly, as if asking what happened next.
"The zombie's magical hair reminded everyone that being different is beautiful," the sphinx said. "Now, I shall give you both a gift." The sphinx touched Lily's forehead with a stone claw, and Lily felt warm tingles all over. "Whenever you see someone who looks different, you will see the rainbow colors of their true spirit."
Lily looked at Marmalade and gasped. Her cat's orange fur now had shimmering rainbows woven through it! She looked at her own arms and saw tiny rainbows dancing on her skin too.
"Thank you, Mr. Sphinx!" Lily hugged the stone lion. "I'll always remember that everyone is beautiful inside."
That night, Lily dreamed of a kind zombie with rainbow hair, tending a garden of magical flowers where fairies danced. And she knew that magic was real, because kindness is the greatest magic of all.
