The Sphinx's Magical Pool
Lily and Max tumbled through the bushes behind their house, chasing their favorite padel ball. It had bounced over the fence—again! But when they found it, something amazing happened.
The ball rested near the edge of a sparkling blue pool they'd never seen before. The water shimmered like diamonds, and mysterious steam rose into the air.
"Who dares approach my pool?" a voice rumbled.
From behind a large rock stepped a sphinx! She had the body of a golden lion and the head of a wise woman with twinkling eyes. But the strangest thing was what she held in her paw—a padel racket!
"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said, "and this is the Wishing Pool. But you can't just take from it. You must earn your wish first."
Lily stepped forward bravely. "How?"
Cleo smiled and swung her padel racket. "By beating me in padel, of course! I've been playing for three thousand years, and I'm the champion of all magical creatures."
Max's eyes widened. "But we're just kids!"
"Exactly," Cleo purred. "Children have something adults forget—imagination. And in padel, as in life, imagination is your most powerful shot."
The game began! Cleo hit the ball so hard it whistled through the air. But Lily and Max worked together, calling out moves and encouraging each other. Max used a tricky spin shot he'd invented, and Lily made a diving save that made Cleo's golden mane flutter with surprise.
When match point came, Lily tossed the ball up. She remembered how her mom always said, "Believe in yourself." She closed her eyes, imagined the perfect shot, and swung!
The ball sailed over Cleo's head and splashed into the magical pool with a musical *ping*!
Cleo roared with delight, her sphinx eyes sparkling. "You did it! Friendship and teamwork—those are the real magic!"
She stepped aside. "Make your wish from the pool."
Lily and Max looked at each other and smiled. "We wish," they said together, "that we can come back and play padel with you whenever we want."
Cleo's happy tears dropped into the pool, making ripples of rainbow colors. "Granted," she whispered. "And that, my friends, is the wisest wish of all—because the best magic is the magic of friendship."
