The Sphinx's Magical Gift
Lily loved brushing her long golden hair every morning. It shimmered like sunlight, and she always wondered if hair could hold magic.
One day, while exploring her grandmother's attic, she found something strange—an old phone that looked like an iPhone but glowed with purple light. When she touched it, a sphinx made of golden sparkles appeared!
"Young one," the sphinx rumbled kindly, "I am the Guardian of Wishes. Your hair has caught the attention of the stars themselves."
Lily's dog Buster barked happily, his tail wagging so hard it almost knocked over a stack of old books. The sphinx chuckled.
"And who is this friend?" the sphinx asked. Buster sat proudly, as if he understood every word.
"This is Buster, my best friend," Lily said proudly. "We go everywhere together."
The sphinx smiled. "True friendship is the rarest magic. I shall grant you one wish, but first you must answer my riddle: What has roots as nobody sees, is taller than trees, up, up it goes, and yet never grows?"
Lily thought hard. She looked at Buster, who was sniffing at an old mountain painting on the wall.
"A mountain!" Lily cried.
"Correct," said the sphinx. "Your wish, young one."
Lily didn't wish for toys or candy. "I wish that whenever someone feels lonely, they'll find a friend like Buster."
The sphinx's eyes twinkled. "A wish that gives to others? How rare." She touched Lily's hair with a glowing claw. "From now on, your hair will shine extra bright whenever someone nearby needs a friend. You'll be their friendship guide."
Lily's hair glowed golden-red, like sunset. Buster barked in agreement.
"Thank you, Sphinx!" Lily hugged Buster.
"Remember," the sphinx faded into sparkles, "the best magic is kindness."
That day, Lily's hair glowed brighter than ever. She knew exactly where to go—the park, where a new girl sat alone on a swing.
"Hi," Lily called, Buster at her side. "Want to play?"
And that's how Lily discovered that the most powerful magic wasn't in phones or sphinxes, but in kindness, friendship, and a dog who never left your side.
