The Sphinx's Magical Garden

Leo found the hat in his grandmother's attic. It was purple with silver stars, and when he put it on, his bedroom suddenly smelled like desert sand.

"Whoosh!" The room spun like a carousel, and Leo landed on soft golden sand. Before him stood a great creature with a lion's body and a human face—a sphinx!

"Hello, little one," said the sphinx. Her voice sounded like gentle wind chimes. "I am Cleo. I need your help. My magical garden is dying."

Leo followed Cleo behind a giant pyramid. There, instead of regular vegetables, grew glowing orange spinach leaves. But tonight, the plants drooped sadly.

"What's wrong?" Leo asked, kneeling beside the wilting leaves.

"The lightning stopped coming," Cleo explained. "Every night, special lightning strikes my garden. It makes the orange spinach glow with magic that protects all of Egypt's tombs. But for three nights, the sky has been dark."

Leo looked up. The clouds were thick and gray, but no flashes appeared. He thought hard. Back home, he'd seen how his little sister made lightning flash by rubbing her balloon on her head and touching the metal table. Static electricity!

"I have an idea!" Leo took off his magic hat and rubbed it quickly against his hair. Again and again, until sparks crackled at his fingertips. He touched the nearest spinach leaf, and—ZAP! A tiny orange spark jumped from his finger to the plant.

The leaf shivered, then glowed brighter. One by one, Leo touched each plant until the whole garden shimmered like tiny orange stars. Cleo purred with happiness.

"You saved us!" She nuzzled Leo's cheek with her soft furry face. "Here—take this." She pressed a small orange spinach leaf into his hand. "Whenever you need courage, hold this tight."

The hat whisked Leo back to his bedroom just as his mother called, "Dinner's ready! Spinach tonight!"

Leo smiled, patting his pocket where the glowing leaf warmed against his hip. Regular spinach would never be the same again.
