The Sphinx's Magical Game
Lily loved exploring the old park behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she followed a trail of sparkling purple pebbles until she reached a clearing she'd never seen before.
In the center stood an ancient stone sphinx with kind, twinkling eyes. Beside it was a glowing blue padel court, but instead of a regular net, magical golden ribbons floated in the air.
"Welcome, young adventurer," the sphinx rumbled gently. "I've been waiting fifty years for someone brave enough to challenge my friend."
From behind a nearby tree shuffled a small green figure—a zombie! But instead of being scary, he wore a bright orange bandana and held a padel racquet with a bouncy green ball.
"Hi! I'm Zephyr," the zombie said with a friendly grin. "Want to play padel? I haven't had a partner in forever!"
Lily's eyes widened. She'd played padel at school, but never with a magical zombie!
"I'll explain the magical rules," said the sphinx. "Every time you hit the ball, you must share something kind about yourself. The more you share, the more the court glows!"
Lily and Zephyr began to play. When Zephyr hit the ball, he called out, "I love collecting shiny rocks!" When Lily returned it, she shouted, "I want to be an astronaut!"
The padel court began to sparkle brighter and brighter. With every kind word they shared, the golden ribbons danced higher, and the sphinx smiled.
"You see," the sphinx whispered, "Zephyr isn't scary. He's just lonely, like anyone can be. The real magic isn't in the court—it's in friendship."
Lily realized the sphinx was right. Sometimes the things that seem different or strange just need someone to say hello.
"Come back tomorrow!" Zephyr called as Lily headed home. "I'll teach you my special serving trick!"
Lily ran home, her heart full of magic. She couldn't wait to tell everyone that the scariest-looking creatures sometimes make the best friends—especially when they're really good at padel.
