The Sphinx's Magical Game
Young Lily discovered the hidden path behind the old oak tree on a bright Saturday morning. She followed it to a secret meadow where a golden sphinx sat atop a mossy rock, its wings shimmering like morning dew.
"Welcome, Lily," the sphinx purred gently. "I've been waiting for someone with a brave heart."
Lily's eyes widened. "You know my name?"
"I know many things," the sphinx said. "But I need your help. A zombie named Zog has been lonely for three hundred years. He just wants to play, but everyone runs away from him."
Lily felt sad for Zog. "Where does he live?"
"By the orange grove, where the sun sets perfect and round," the sphinx explained. "But there's a problem. Zog loves padel, but he has no one to play with. His skin is green and his clothes are tattered, but his heart is kind."
Lily nodded determinedly. "I'll play with him!"
"Not so fast," the sphinx smiled mysteriously. "To reach the orange grove, you must ride my friend, Bruno."
From behind the rocks trotted a magnificent white bull with silver horns and kind brown eyes. Bruno lowered his head gently.
"Lily," Bruno spoke in a warm, rumbling voice, "climb aboard. Zog's been waiting so long for a friend."
Lily climbed onto Bruno's broad back, and they galloped through rainbow meadows and sparkling streams until they reached the orange grove. There, under the trees with fruit glowing like tiny suns, stood Zog.
Zog looked nothing like the scary zombies from stories. His skin was minty green, his smile was crooked but sweet, and he held a dusty padel racket hopefully.
"Want to play?" Zog asked shyly.
"Yes!" Lily hopped off Bruno's back. "I love padel!"
They played padel until the sun began to set, hitting the ball back and forth, laughing when Zog missed, cheering when Lily made a great shot. Zog's green skin seemed to glow with happiness.
From the trees, the sphinx appeared, smiling. "You've learned the most important lesson, Lily. What matters isn't how someone looks, but what's in their heart."
Lily hugged Zog. "Being different is what makes us special."
"Will you come back?" Zog asked hopefully.
"Every Saturday," Lily promised.
Bruno carried Lily home, and as she drifted to sleep that night, she dreamed of padel games with a zombie, sphinx riddles, and rides on a magical bull under orange trees that glowed like friendship itself.
