The Sphinx's Magical Ball Game

Lily loved running through the golden sand near her grandfather's house. Every day after school, she would race the seagulls to the ocean, her bare feet pattering against the warm beach.

One Tuesday, something strange happened. As she ran past the ancient palm tree at the edge of the dunes, she heard a deep, rumbling voice.

"Young one, will you play with me?"

Lily stopped. There, curled beneath the palm fronds, was a small sphinx—no bigger than a cat—with twinkling amber eyes and feathery wings. Its lion body was the color of sunset, and it looked at her hopefully.

"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said. "And I've been waiting three hundred years for someone to play padel with me."

"Padel?" Lily gasped. "That's my favorite sport!"

Cleo's wings fluttered with excitement. "Then it's fate!" The sphinx tapped her paw on the sand, and suddenly a magical padel court appeared, shimmering like moonlight. The net was made of stardust, and the ball glowed softly.

They played until the sun began to set. Lily had never had so much fun. Cleo could hover and dive, returning impossible shots, while Lily laughed and ran across the sparkling court.

"Thank you, Lily," Cleo said as they sat together in the sand, watching the waves. "You know, sphinxes are famous for riddles, but what I really wanted was friendship."

Lily opened her palm, and Cleo placed something small and warm into it—a tiny golden tennis ball charm.

"Come back tomorrow," Cleo whispered. "And bring your sister. The more friends, the more fun."

That night, Lily fell asleep with a smile, dreaming of sphinxes and magical games, knowing she had found something more precious than gold—a friendship that would last forever.
