The Sphinx's Magic Vitamins

Lily discovered the pyramid hidden beneath her grandmother's old oak tree. It wasn't big like the ones in books—just the size of a shoebox, glowing with soft purple light. Her grandmother called them "magic vitamins," tiny crystals that sparkled like captured stars.

"Who's there?" Lily whispered.

A tiny sphinx no larger than a kitten poked its head from behind the pyramid. It had the body of a lion and the face of a wise old owl, with emerald eyes that twinkled like moonlight.

"I am Serafina," the sphinx said in a voice like gentle wind chimes. "Guardian of the Courage Pyramid. We collect magic vitamins here—special crystals that appear whenever children do something brave."

The pyramid's purple glow flickered weakly. "But our vitamins are running low. Children forget they can be brave every day."

Lily's heart pounded. "What can I do?"

"Help me collect new ones," Serafina said. "Each vitamin starts as a tiny spark. When you try something new, when you help someone who's scared, when you stand up for what's right—that spark grows into a crystal."

They spent the afternoon collecting sparks. Lily introduced herself to the new neighbor boy who looked lonely. She told her teacher the truth about breaking the window. She held her little brother's hand during his first dentist visit.

Each act created a shimmering crystal—pink for kindness, blue for honesty, gold for courage. Serafina taught Lily to place them carefully inside the pyramid, where they glowed brighter together.

By sunset, the pyramid blazed like a tiny sun. Serafina nuzzled Lily's hand with her warm lion nose.

"You're a hero now," the sphinx said. "Remember, brave isn't about not being scared. Brave is doing what's right even when you ARE scared."

Lily hugged the magical creature tight. "Can I visit again?"

"Whenever you need more courage vitamins," Serafina winked. "But I think you have enough inside you now."

That night, Lily discovered something wonderful—the tiny crystals she'd collected now lived in her heart, glowing softly whenever she needed them most. And sometimes, when she looked closely at her reflection, she could see emerald eyes looking back, just like Serafina's.

The pyramid remained beneath the oak tree, waiting for the next child who needed to discover that courage was something they could grow, one crystal at a time.
