The Sphinx's Magic Vitamins
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic. On rainy Saturdays, she'd climb the creaky stairs and discover ancient treasures tucked away in wooden chests. But one afternoon, she found something extraordinary.
Behind a stack of old books, a small stone sphinx sat on a velvet pillow. Its lion body was curled peacefully, and its human face wore a gentle smile. When Lily touched its golden paw, the sphinx's eyes opened like sunrise.
"Hello, young adventurer," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to wake me."
Lily's heart raced with wonder. "You're real! Can you grant wishes?"
"Something better," the sphinx purred. "I have magic vitamins for courage, kindness, and curiosity. But first, you must pass a test."
The sphinx told Lily about a new girl who had moved to her neighborhood—Mia, who sat alone at school because she was too shy to make friends.
"True magic," the sphinx explained, "is being brave enough to be someone's friend when they need one most."
Lily thought of Mia, who always read at recess but never joined games. The sphinx placed a shimmering blue vitamin in her palm. "This will give you the courage you need."
The next day, Lily's stomach fluttered as she approached Mia. But when she swallowed the magic vitamin, warmth spread through her chest like hot chocolate. "Hi, I'm Lily," she said. "Do you want to play tag?"
Mia's face lit up like fireworks. For the first time, Lily saw the real Mia—funny, fast, and full of laughter.
That night, Lily whispered thank you to the sphinx. She learned that the best kind of magic wasn't in vitamins or mythical creatures at all. The real magic was in being a friend, which was the greatest adventure of all.
