The Sphinx's Magic Vitamin

Lily loved running through the park, her feet dancing across the grass like sunlight skipping on waves. One Tuesday, while chasing a butterfly near the old stone fountain, she noticed something strange. The fountain's stone sphinx winked at her!

"Hello there, young runner," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone speedy like you."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "You can talk?"

"Indeed!" The sphinx stretched her stone wings. "But I'm in quite a pickle. My magic vitamin tablet fell into the pond yesterday, and without it, I'll turn back into regular stone by midnight."

"A magic vitamin?" Lily asked.

"Not just any vitamin! One from the star Sirius. It gives magical creatures their power. But a mischievous frog hopped away with it."

Lily peered into the pond. Sure enough, a glowing blue frog sat on a lily pad, clutching a shimmering orange tablet.

"I love running!" Lily said. "I bet I can catch him!"

The sphinx nodded wisely. "But this frog is clever. He'll only give the vitamin to someone who helps him learn something new."

Lily thought carefully. "What do frogs want to know?"

"How to smile!" said a tiny voice from the pond. The blue frog looked sad. "Everyone thinks frogs are supposed to look grumpy. But I want to be happy."

Lily grinned. "That's easy! Smiling starts in your heart, not your face. Watch!" She closed her eyes and thought about her puppy, her grandma's hugs, and running in warm sunshine. When she opened her eyes, her smile was so bright it made the lily pads glow.

The frog tried. First a small grin, then a big toothy smile that made his whole body wiggle. "I did it!" he cheered, and placed the glowing vitamin in Lily's hand.

The sphinx swallowed her star vitamin just as the clock tower chimed midnight. Her stone body sparkled like diamond dust.

"Thank you, Lily," the sphinx said. "You learned that true magic isn't in vitamins or powers. It's in kindness and helping others smile."

From that day on, whenever Lily went running, she always smiled at everyone she passed. And sometimes, late at night, she could hear the sphinx laughing in the park, teaching other frogs how to grin.
