The Sphinx's Magic Test
Max was no ordinary golden retriever. While other dogs chased tennis balls, Max loved watching his owner Lily read books about ancient Egypt. One rainy afternoon, while Lily was at school, Max discovered something peculiar—her old iPhone had slid under the bed and was glowing with a mysterious blue light.
Curious, Max nudged the phone with his wet nose. Suddenly, a swirl of sparkles filled the room! When the sparkles cleared, Max wasn't in his bedroom anymore. He stood before a magnificent creature made of golden stone—a sphinx with wise, twinkling eyes.
"Welcome, brave dog," the sphinx rumbled softly. "I've been waiting for someone pure of heart. My magical fountain has stopped flowing, and only a true friend can restore it."
Max's ears perked up. The sphinx led him to a beautiful fountain filled with sparkling water, but it was completely dry. Beside it sat a single orange tablet.
"This is no ordinary vitamin," the sphinx explained. "It's a Courage Vitamin. Whoever takes it becomes brave enough to solve any problem. But there's a catch—you must share it with another who needs it more."
Max thought of all the times he'd been afraid of thunderstorms or vacuum cleaners. He really wanted that courage! But then he remembered the little puppy next door who was too scared to leave her porch.
Max nudged the vitamin toward the sphinx. "Give it to the puppy next door," he seemed to say with his big brown eyes.
The sphinx smiled, and suddenly the water began to bubble and sparkle again! "You already passed the real test, Max. True courage isn't about being fearless—it's about caring for others."
The fountain's magical water shot up like a rainbow, and in an instant, Max was back in his bedroom. The iPhone was just a regular phone again, but Max felt different. He didn't need a magic vitamin to be brave—he'd discovered his own courage all along.
That afternoon, when Lily came home, Max marched right up to the neighbor's scared puppy and shared his favorite toy. Some adventures don't require magic at all—just a brave and kind heart.
