The Sphinx's Magic Pool

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden. It was filled with secret pathways and ancient statues, but her favorite spot was behind the old rosebushes, where a tiny stone sphinx sat guarding a crystal pool no bigger than a bathtub.

The sphinx had the most magnificent hair — carved from shimmering marble that sparkled like stars in the sunlight. Lily had named her Stella.

"Good morning, Stella," Lily whispered every day, dropping a flower into the pool.

One hot afternoon, something magical happened. As Lily's pebble touched the water, ripples of gold spread across the surface. The stone sphinx's eyes opened, glowing like tiny moons.

"You have visited me every day for three years," Stella spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "You are kind and brave. You may make one wish in my magic pool."

Lily's heart raced. She could wish for anything! But she thought of her little brother Max, who had lost his hair during his illness and was sad because the other children made fun of him.

"I want Max to feel brave again," Lily said. "And I want him to know he's wonderful exactly as he is."

Stella's marble hair began to shimmer. "You have made the bravest wish of all — not for yourself, but for someone else. The pool shows true courage."

The water swirled with rainbow colors, showing an image of Max standing tall, smiling, playing soccer with confidence.

"Your wish will come true," Stella said. "But remember, the real magic was already inside you — the magic of a loving heart."

Lily hugged the stone sphinx. "Thank you, Stella!"

The next morning, Max stood straighter. When kids stared, he just waved. His hair didn't matter anymore — he knew his sister believed in him, and that gave him all the courage he needed.

Lily visited Stella often after that, but the sphinx never spoke again. Sometimes, the best magic is knowing that kindness can change everything, even when you can't see it happening.

And every time Lily saw her brother smile, she knew it was true.
