The Sphinx's Magic Pool
Lily pushed through the tangled vines in her grandmother's backyard, her heart fluttering with excitement. Behind the old oak tree, she'd noticed something glimmering yesterday.
There it was—a crystal clear **pool** she'd never seen before. But what made her gasp was the creature resting beside it. A golden **sphinx** with sparkling emerald eyes lay on a sun-warmed rock.
"Welcome, young adventurer," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle chimes. "I've been waiting for someone pure of heart."
Lily's knees trembled, but she stepped closer. "Who are you?"
"I am Samira, guardian of the Magic **Water** Pool," the sphinx replied. "This water grants one wish to those who prove themselves worthy."
Lily's eyes widened. She could wish for anything! A new bike? A room full of toys?
"But first," Samira continued, "you must play three rounds of **padel** with me and win." The sphinx pointed her golden paw toward an ancient racquet lying on the grass.
Lily had never played padel before, but she loved trying new games. "I'll try my best!"
They played under the warm sun. The sphinx was skilled—her shots were swift and clever. Lily lost the first two rounds, her arms growing tired.
"You could wish to win," Samira said gently during their break. "The magic water could help you."
Lily looked at the pool, then shook her head. "That wouldn't be fair. If I win, I want it to be because I tried my hardest and had fun doing it."
Samira's emerald eyes twinkled. "That," she said softly, "is exactly why you are already winning."
Something changed inside Lily. She stopped worrying about winning and just enjoyed the game. She laughed when she missed. She cheered when the sphinx made a great shot. And in the third round—miraculously—Lily won!
"You did it!" Samira's wings fluttered happily. "You may make your wish."
Lily thought carefully. "I wish... that this pool and our friendship would last forever, so other children could learn that playing fair and having fun is more important than winning."
Samira smiled. "Granted. And now," she dipped her paw into the sparkling water, "take this magic drop. Whenever you play, you'll remember—honest effort beats easy victories."
Lily ran home, her heart full of magic. The best wish, she realized, was the one that could be shared with everyone.
