The Sphinx's Magic Pool

Lily discovered the pool behind the old oak tree on a Tuesday. It wasn't an ordinary pool. The water shimmered like liquid starlight, and when she leaned closer, she saw scenes from other worlds dancing in its depths.

"Who enters my domain?" A voice rumbled like distant thunder.

Lily spun around. Perched on a stone was the most magnificent creature she had ever seen—a sphinx with golden fur and wings that sparkled like morning dew. Its emerald eyes twinkled with ancient wisdom.

"I'm Lily," she whispered, clutching her old iphone to her chest. She'd been playing a game when the strange app had appeared, showing a map to this very spot.

"Ah, a seeker," the sphinx purred. "This pool shows what lies beyond. But to cross, you must answer my riddle."

Before Lily could respond, something splashed in the pool. A furry head emerged—a baby bear with curious brown eyes and a splash of white on its nose like a splash of milk.

"That's Bruno," the sphinx said. "He comes from the world beyond. He's been waiting for a friend."

Bruno paddled to the edge and shook himself dry, sending sparkles flying. He nudged Lily's hand with his wet nose, and her iphone glowed golden. On the screen, she saw Bruno's world—forests of crystal trees, rivers of lemonade, mountains made of marshmallow.

"The riddle," the sphinx said gently, "is this: What opens doors but has no key, shows you worlds but never moves?"

Lily looked at her iphone, now pulsing with light. She looked at Bruno, who was trying to catch a floating sparkle in his paws. She looked at the sphinx, waiting patiently.

"Imagination," Lily said. "And friendship."

The sphinx smiled—a sight that felt like sunshine breaking through clouds. "Correct. Bruno's world needs wonder, and yours needs magic. Together, you'll bring both."

Bruno licked Lily's cheek. Her iphone showed a door appearing in the air, leading to a world of endless adventures.

"Come back whenever you wish," the sphinx called as Lily and her new friend stepped through.

And every night, through the magic pool and her faithful iphone, Lily visits Bruno—sharing stories, trading worlds, and learning that the best magic of all is friendship that spans worlds.
