The Sphinx's Magic Pond
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden, where the old stone sphinx sat beside a sparkling pond. The sphinx had mossy green hair made of soft vines that dangled down its stone face.
One afternoon, Lily peered into the pond and gasped. The goldfish inside could talk!
"Hello, little one!" said Goldie, her orange scales shimmering like tiny sunset mirrors. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to help."
Lily leaned closer. "Help with what?"
"The sphinx's nephew, Zed," Goldie whispered. "He's trapped under a silly spell that makes him shamble around like a zombie, searching for something he lost. But he can't remember what it is!"
Just then, a slow-moving figure stumbled into the garden. Zed looked like a regular boy, except he moved in jerky motions and kept murmuring, "Where... where..."
The sphinx rumbled awake. "Ah, dear Zed. He lost his lucky shell, and without it, he forgets who he is."
Lily's heart swelled with determination. She scanned the grass carefully. Behind some wildflowers, she spotted a beautiful spiral shell glowing with soft blue light.
"Is this it?" Lily asked, holding it up.
Zed's eyes widened. The zombie-like movements vanished instantly. He grabbed the shell and laughed. "I remember! I'm Zed, and I love collecting treasures by the sea!"
The sphinx smiled, its vine hair swaying. "You have a kind heart, Lily. True magic isn't about spells—it's about helping friends."
Goldie did a happy flip in the water. Lily beamed, realizing that sometimes the smallest adventures bring the biggest joys. And from that day on, she always stopped to say hello to her magical new friends.
