The Sphinx's Magic Pond
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden. It had the most unusual vegetables—purple carrots, blue tomatoes, and the greenest **spinach** she had ever seen. But today, something extraordinary happened.
As Lily reached for a spinach leaf, a soft voice spoke beside her. "Who touches my garden?"
Lily turned to see a creature with a lion's body, eagle wings, and a wise face. It was a **sphinx**, but tiny—only as big as her cat!
"I'm Lily," she said bravely. "What's your name?"
"I am Cleo," the sphinx said proudly. "Guardian of the magical pond." She nodded toward a small pond Lily hadn't noticed before. Inside swam the most beautiful **goldfish**, shimmering like tiny golden stars.
Suddenly, the sky darkened. A bolt of **lightning** flashed across the clouds, and rain began to fall.
Cleo shivered. "My goldfish friend, Finn, is sick," she whispered sadly. "He needs magic spinach to feel better."
Lily looked at the fish floating weakly in the water. Her heart felt sad too.
"I can help!" Lily said. She quickly picked the biggest, brightest spinach leaf and dropped it into the pond.
The leaf didn't sink. Instead, it glowed with golden light and dissolved into sparkles that swirled around Finn. Slowly, the goldfish began to swim faster. His scales shone brighter than ever!
"Thank you!" Cleo purred, bumping her head against Lily's hand. "You saved my friend."
Lily smiled as the rain stopped and a rainbow appeared over the garden. She had learned something important: even small acts of kindness can make magic happen.
From that day on, Lily visited Cleo and Finn every afternoon. And sometimes, if she looked very carefully, she could see tiny lightning bugs dancing around the pond, celebrating their friendship.
