The Sphinx's Magic Phone

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the old garden filled with swaying palm trees. One afternoon, while playing hide-and-seek with her grandmother's fluffy dog named Max, Lily discovered something magical behind the largest palm tree.

There, half-buried in golden sand, gleamed a mysterious iPhone. But this wasn't like any phone she had ever seen. It sparkled with tiny stars, and when Lily touched the screen, a gentle voice rumbled like distant thunder.

"Greetings, young friend," said the voice. "I am the Sphinx of Secrets, and I have been waiting for someone kind enough to find my magical phone."

Lily's eyes grew wide as the Sphinx's face appeared on the screen—a wise creature with lion's paws, eagle wings, and knowing eyes. "For thousands of years," the Sphinx continued, "I've watched children play in this garden. You are the first one who didn't just grab my phone and run. You stopped to pet the dog first."

Max barked happily, his tail thumping against Lily's leg.

"Will you help me?" the Sphinx asked. "I need a true friend to answer three questions. If you succeed, you'll receive one wish. But be careful—my riddles are tricky!"

Lily nodded, her heart fluttering like a butterfly. The Sphinx's first riddle was: "What has teeth but cannot bite?"

She thought hard, then remembered something from school. "A comb!"

"Correct!" The Sphinx's eyes twinkled. "Next: What can you catch but cannot throw?"

Lily looked around the garden, at the palm trees dancing in the breeze, at Max chasing his tail. Then she smiled. "A cold!"

"Amazing!" The Sphinx roared with laughter. "Last question: What is always coming but never arrives?"

This one was harder. Lily wrinkled her nose, thinking about the sun moving across the sky, about how her mom always said 'tomorrow' when Lily wanted something now. Her eyes lit up. "Tomorrow!"

"You have answered wisely," the Sphinx said proudly. "What is your wish, young friend?"

Lily looked at Max, who was now sleeping peacefully in the shade. "I wish that every child could have a loyal friend like Max, and that everyone could learn that being kind matters more than being quick."

The Sphinx smiled warmly. "Your wish is already granted, for you have shown kindness today. The magic was never in the phone—it was in your heart all along."

That evening, as Lily hugged her grandmother goodbye, she noticed the mysterious iPhone had vanished. But in its place, a small golden sphinx charm glimmered on a leather cord around her neck—a reminder that the best magic of all is the magic of friendship and kindness.

Max barked as if to say, "And don't forget the magic of dogs too!"
