The Sphinx's Magic Orange
Lily was running through her garden when she spotted something peculiar. Behind the old oak tree sat a golden sphinx with emerald eyes, but this sphinx was tiny—only the size of a garden gnome!
"Greetings, young adventurer!" the sphinx purred, stretching its feathery wings. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."
Lily knelt down. "Are you real?"
"As real as your imagination," the sphinx replied with a wink. From beside its paw, it rolled a bright orange fruit. "This is no ordinary orange. It's a Magic Wish Orange, but it only works for those who are kind."
Suddenly, something flopped in the nearby pond. A goldfish with shimmering scales hopped onto the grass, but instead of swimming back, it kept flopping toward them in a very strange, slow way.
"That's my friend Finny," the sphinx whispered. "He's what you might call a zombie goldfish—he forgot how to swim, so he learned to walk on land instead!"
Finny the goldfish reached them and made a happy gurgle. Lily giggled.
"The orange can grant one wish," said the sphinx. "What would you wish for?"
Lily thought about wishing for toys, or candy, or a treehouse. But then she looked at Finny, flopping so slowly along the ground.
"I wish Finny could swim fast again!" Lily declared.
The sphinx smiled, and the orange glowed with golden light. In a sparkle of magic, Finny dove into the pond and zoomed around like a shooting star!
"Thank you!" Finny bubbled, jumping out to nuzzle Lily's hand.
The sphinx nodded wisely. "You chose kindness over greed. That is the greatest magic of all."
That night, Lily fell asleep with a smile. Sometimes the best adventures aren't about what we get—they're about what we give.
