The Sphinx's Magic Hat

Lily found the old velvet hat in her grandmother's attic. It was purple with gold stars, and when she put it on, something magical happened.

"Hello, little friend!" a voice rumbled.

Lily jumped. A stone sphinx was sitting in the corner of the attic, his lion tail twitching.

"You can talk?" Lily gasped.

"Only when someone wears the magic hat," the sphinx said with a wink. "I've been waiting for you. Want to see something amazing?"

Lily nodded excitedly. The sphinx tapped the floor with his paw, and suddenly they weren't in the attic anymore. They stood in a beautiful garden where flowers changed colors like an iPhone screen, shimmering from pink to blue to purple.

"This is the Garden of Wonders," the sphinx explained. "But it's fading because children stopped believing in magic. They spend too much time on screens instead of imagining adventures."

Lily thought about how she used to make up stories with her best friend before they got phones.

"Can we save it?" Lily asked.

"Yes!" The sphinx smiled. "When you wear the magic hat, your imagination becomes real. Whatever you dream, the garden will show you."

Lily closed her eyes and imagined herself flying on a rainbow with her friend. Suddenly, a rainbow bridge appeared, and she saw herself and her friend laughing as they soared through the sky.

"Your turn," Lily told the sphinx. "What do you imagine?"

The sphinx thought carefully. "I imagine a world where every child has a special friend to share adventures with — and where magic hats wait in attics for those who believe."

The garden bloomed brighter than ever.

"The magic was inside you all along," the sphinx said gently. "The hat just helped you see it. Remember: real magic isn't on screens. It's in friendship, imagination, and believing in wonder."

Lily took off the hat and tucked it safely in her pocket. The sphinx turned back to stone, but Lily knew he was still there, waiting for the next dreamer.

That afternoon, Lily called her friend. "Want to go on an adventure?" she asked. "I'll bring the magic hat."
