The Sphinx's Magic Hat

Lily found the purple hat in her grandmother's attic. It was fuzzy and pointy, with tiny silver stars sewn all around it. When she tried it on, something strange happened.

That afternoon, Lily went **swimming** in her backyard **pool**. The blue water sparkled in the sunlight like diamonds. She did cannonballs and raced imaginary mermaids across the water.

Suddenly, the water began to glow golden. A magnificent **sphinx** rose from the pool! She had the body of a lion and the head of a wise woman with golden wings.

"You found my magic hat!" the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "I've been looking for it for three hundred years. Will you help me with something?"

Lily nodded, her eyes wide with wonder.

"My best friend, a little **bear** named Bruno, is trapped in a cave. He's afraid to come out because he thinks he's too small to be brave. But true courage comes from the heart, not from size."

The sphinx touched the purple hat with her paw. Suddenly, Lily wasn't in her pool anymore. She stood in a beautiful forest with rainbow-colored leaves.

In a cave, she saw a tiny bear cub shivering.

"Hi Bruno!" Lily said kindly. "I came to help you."

"I'm too scared," Bruno whispered. "What if I'm not brave enough?"

Lily thought for a moment. "Being brave doesn't mean you're not scared. It means you do the right thing even when you ARE scared. You're already being brave by talking to me!"

Bruno smiled and stepped out of the cave. He realized Lily was right.

The sphinx appeared and hugged her friend. "Thank you, Lily. You taught Bruno an important lesson - and you learned it too!"

In a flash of golden light, Lily was back in her pool, still wearing the purple hat. She smiled, knowing that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness are the bravest things we can do.

And whenever she wore the hat, she could hear the sphinx and bear playing happily in the magical forest just beyond her backyard.
