The Sphinx's Magic Garden
Lily hated spinach. Every time her mom served it, she would push the green leaves around her plate.
"It'll make you strong," Mom would say.
"I don't want to be strong," Lily would grumble. "I want to be magical."
One afternoon, while playing in the attic, Lily found something strange—a thick golden cable disappearing through a tiny hole in the wall. Being curious, she gave it a gentle tug. The wall shimmered like soap bubbles, and suddenly she wasn't in the attic anymore.
She stood in a garden filled with sparkling plants. In the center sat an enormous sphinx with emerald eyes and windswept hair made of flowing silver vines.
"Welcome, young one," the sphinx purred. "I've been waiting for someone who doesn't like spinach."
Lily's eyes went wide. "How did you know?"
"I know many things." The sphinx smiled mysteriously. "This cable connects our worlds. It appears only for children with imagination. But tell me, why do you dislike the green leaves?"
"They're boring," Lily said honestly. "Magic is exciting. Spinach is just... vegetables."
The sphinx chuckled. "What if I told you that spinach is the most magical plant of all? In our world, it grows from starlight. One leaf can give you the power to fly, if you believe."
Lily gasped. "Really?"
"Try it." The sphinx gestured to a nearby plant with glowing leaves.
Lily plucked a leaf and nibbled it tentatively. It tasted sweet, like sunshine and dreams. Suddenly, her feet lifted off the ground! She was floating!
"I'm flying!" she laughed, spinning in the air.
"You see," said the sphinx, "magic lives in unexpected places. The problem wasn't the spinach. The problem was believing it was ordinary."
Lily floated back down. "Will the cable always be there?"
"Whenever you need magic," the sphinx whispered. "But remember—you carry it inside you now."
Lily gave the sphinx a hug and followed the golden cable back to her attic.
That night at dinner, Lily ate every bite of spinach. When Mom asked why, Lily just smiled.
"It's magic," she said. "And I believe."
And from that day on, Lily found magic everywhere—in leaves, in laughter, and especially in things she used to think were ordinary.
