The Sphinx's Lost Phone

Lily found it half-buried in the sand at the playground—a shiny black rectangle that hummed with tiny lightning bolts whenever she touched it. It looked just like her mom's iPhone, but this one had ancient symbols glowing across its screen in gold.

That night, under her orange blanket with a flashlight, Lily pressed the largest symbol. CRACK! A tiny sphinx no bigger than her goldfish, Bubbles, popped out of the screen! The sphinx had emerald wings and twinkled like stardust.

"Finally!" the sphinx squeaked. "I've been stuck in the Lost Phone Realm for centuries!"

Bubbles swam to the front of his bowl, blowing bubbles that turned into tiny hearts. The sphinx bowed gracefully.

"I am Cleo," she said. "This phone belongs to the Museum of Magical Misplacements. But I can only return if you solve my riddle."

Lily's heart thumped with excitement. "I love riddles!"

Cleo's eyes sparkled like lightning flashed behind them. "What has fins but cannot swim, a screen but cannot show movies, and connects friends across worlds without any words?"

Lily looked at Bubbles swimming happily. She thought about her grandma who lived far away. She looked at the humming phone in her hands.

"Friendship!" Lily shouted. "Friendship has fins—like fish you make in preschool! It has screens like when you video call! And it connects people everywhere!"

Celo's emerald wings fluttered wildly. "Correct! You see with your heart, not just your eyes!"

The phone erupted with golden lightning, swirling around Lily's room. When the sparkles settled, Cleo was gone—but a tiny sphinx charm now dangled from Lily's lamp, and Bubbles had turned a brilliant orange color.

Lily's phone buzzed. A text appeared: "Thank you, clever friend. The sphinx sends her gratitude. — Museum of Magical Misplacements"

Lily smiled, hugging her orange blankie. Sometimes the most wonderful adventures come from the most unexpected places—and true friendship is the strongest magic of all.
