The Sphinx's Lightning Baseball
Emma loved rainy afternoons. While other kids stayed inside, she'd press her nose against the window, watching for lightning. One crackling stormy day, she spotted something peculiar in her backyard—a stone sphinx, glowing with tiny sparks.
Curious, Emma crept outside. The sphinx opened one golden eye. "I've been waiting for a lightning player like you," it rumbled. In its paw sat a papaya, glowing like a tiny sun. "I challenge you to a baseball game—my lightning balls against your papaya bat."
Emma's curly hair whipped wildly as the sphinx tossed the first pitch—a ball of pure lightning! THWACK! She swung her papaya bat, and instead of smashing, the fruit transformed into a beautiful butterfly made of light.
"Amazing!" cheered the sphinx. "Your imagination is stronger than my lightning."
Each pitch became something new: flowers, stars, even a miniature rainbow. Emma laughed with joy, spinning and hitting every magical ball. The sphinx grinned, its stone face softening.
"You possess the greatest magic," it whispered, fading into mist. "Believe in yourself, and you'll always hit life's curveballs."
The next morning, Emma found a real papaya on her pillow—and whenever lightning flashed, she'd wink, knowing her magical friend watched from somewhere beyond the clouds.
Moral: Imagination is the strongest magic of all.
