The Sphinx's Kindness Riddle
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic on rainy Saturdays. She pushed aside dusty boxes and discovered a shimmering golden mirror hidden behind an old trunk. When she touched it, the glass rippled like a pond.
"Hello there!" a voice echoed from within.
Lily gasped as a friendly face appeared — a green-skinned girl with wild purple **hair** that floated around her head like cotton candy.
"I'm Zara!" the girl said. "I'm a **zombie**, but don't worry — I'm the friendly kind. I just want to make friends!"
Lily smiled. Zara wasn't scary at all. She just looked different, like a beautiful painting come to life.
"Will you visit my world?" Zara asked. "The Great Sphinx needs help solving her riddle, and she's been lonely for a thousand years."
Lily stepped through the mirror into a magical land where trees grew candy apples and rivers flowed with sparkling lemonade. They walked together until they reached a magnificent golden creature with the body of a lion and the head of a wise person.
"The **sphinx** has forgotten how to trust," Zara whispered. "She thinks everyone wants to steal her secrets."
The Sphinx's golden eyes sad as she spoke: "I have a riddle for you. What is something you can give away but still keep forever?"
Lily thought hard. She looked at Zara, who had welcomed her into her world without hesitation. She thought about how her grandmother always said kindness was the greatest gift.
"Love!" Lily exclaimed. "Or friendship! Or kindness! When you give them to someone, you still have them too. They grow bigger instead of disappearing!"
The Sphinx's eyes sparkled with tears. "In all my centuries, no one has answered correctly. You see, I forgot that sharing makes things grow, not shrink."
She reached out and touched Lily's forehead with a golden paw. "Thank you for reminding me. You and your friend may visit anytime."
Lily and Zara hugged. Lily learned that day that true friends don't care how you look — they care about your heart. And that kindness, once shared, becomes a treasure everyone can keep forever.
