The Sphinx's Kind Riddle

Lily loved the beach behind her house. She would sit under the swaying palm tree and watch the waves dance. The water sparkled like diamonds in the sun.

One afternoon, something magical happened. A beautiful sphinx appeared beside the palm tree. She had the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman.

"Hello, young one," said the sphinx gently. "I have traveled far seeking someone with a kind heart."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "Are you real?"

"Very real," the sphinx smiled. "But I need your help. My friend has been cast under a spell. Everyone calls him a zombie because he walks slowly and speaks quietly. But he is the kindest soul I know."

"Where is he?" Lily asked.

"By the water," the sphinx said. "He thinks everyone is afraid of him. He sits alone watching the waves."

Lily stood up bravely. "Let's meet him."

They found the sphinx's friend sitting on a rock near the shore. He looked a little sad. His name was Zane, and he moved slowly like he was swimming through honey.

"Hi Zane!" Lily called out cheerfully. "Want to build a sandcastle?"

Zane's face lit up. Nobody had ever invited him to play before. Together, they built the most magnificent castle with towers and moats. The sphinx told wonderful stories about ancient lands while they worked.

"You see," the sphinx whispered to Lily, "sometimes people seem different, but their hearts are exactly the same."

Lily learned something important that day. True friends see with their hearts, not their eyes. And sometimes, the most magical adventures start with a simple act of kindness.
