The Sphinx's Kind Heart

Lily loved exploring the old library after school. One rainy afternoon, she found a glowing book she'd never seen before. When she opened it, lightning flashed outside the window, and the book pulled her inside its pages!

She landed in a golden desert where a giant sphinx sat guarding a pyramid. The sphinx had the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman.

"Welcome, little one," said the sphinx. "I am Cleo. I guard the Book of True Stories. But I am lonely."

Lily noticed someone hiding behind the pyramid—a greenish creature with messy hair. "Is that a zombie?" Lily gasped.

The creature stepped forward sadly. "Everyone calls me Zom. But I'm not scary. I'm just...different."

Cleo nodded. "Zom was once a regular boy like you. But a jealous wizard cast a spell that made him look scary. Now everyone runs away."

Lily looked at Zom's kind eyes. "He doesn't seem scary at all."

Suddenly, dark clouds gathered. The jealous wizard appeared! "You'll never break my spell!" Lightning cracked as he raised his wand.

Zom stepped in front of Lily and Cleo. "Leave them alone!"

The sphinx smiled proudly. "True bravery isn't about being scary. It's about protecting friends."

Lily had an idea. "The Book of True Stories! Maybe it can rewrite Zom's story!"

She opened the glowing book. The lightning from the storm flowed into its pages. Lily wrote: "Zom is not a monster. He is a brave friend with the kindest heart."

Golden light burst from the book! The spell broke. Zom transformed back into a smiling boy.

"Thank you," Zom hugged Lily. "You saw the real me."

Celo gave Lily a hug. "You learned the greatest lesson: never judge someone by how they look. True friends see with their hearts."

Lily woke up back in the library, the mysterious book gone. But she knew it had been real—and that kindness could break any spell, even the scariest ones.
