The Sphinx's Home Run
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon after school, you could find him at the park, practicing his swing. But today, the sky turned dark purple, and strange clouds gathered overhead.
Crack! A bolt of lightning split the sky, striking right behind the old museum. Leo's baseball rolled toward the building, and he went running after it.
Inside the dusty museum window, something magical happened. A small stone sphinx statue began to glow. The sphinx stretched its wings and spoke in a voice like chimes.
"Young player, I've been waiting for you!"
Leo's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"
"Of course! But I'm trapped in this glass case. I need to return to Egypt before midnight, or I'll turn back into stone forever!" The sphinx looked worried. "I can only leave if someone answers my riddle correctly."
Leo pulled out his iPhone. "Maybe I can look up the answer!"
The sphinx chuckled. "No, silly! The answer is in your heart. Here is my riddle: I can fly without wings, I can cry without eyes, and I can run without feet. What am I?"
Leo thought hard. He looked at his baseball, then at the sphinx, then at the storm outside.
"A cloud!" Leo shouted. "Clouds fly, rain from them is like crying, and they run across the sky!"
"Correct!" The sphinx danced joyfully. "You've saved me!" With a sparkle like fireworks, the sphinx grew magical wings and soared through the museum ceiling, flying into the lightning-lit sky toward Egypt.
Leo's iPhone buzzed. A text appeared: "Thank you, friend. Remember: true wisdom comes from within, not from screens. — The Sphinx"
Leo smiled, picking up his baseball. Some adventures are worth more than any home run.
