The Sphinx's Green Secret
Leo hated spinach. Every night at dinner, he'd push the green leaves around his plate, wishing they were chocolate cookies instead.
One sunny afternoon, while playing hide-and-seek in the garden, Leo discovered something extraordinary. Behind the old oak tree, where the moss grew thick and soft, sat a creature he'd only seen in storybooks.
A sphinx.
But this sphinx wasn't like the ones in movies. She was small, only the size of a cat, with soft golden fur and sparkling blue eyes. Her wings shimmered like rainbows in the sunlight.
"Hello, Leo," she said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for you."
"You know my name?" Leo gasped.
"I know everything about children who hate their vegetables," the sphinx winked. "I'm Sunny, and I need your help."
Sunny explained that she'd forgotten the answer to an ancient riddle, and without it, she couldn't return to her magical home. The riddle was: "What makes you strong, what makes you smart, what makes your heart the bravest part?"
Leo promised to help his new friend. For three days, they explored together—running through meadows, climbing trees, and splashing in streams. Leo showed Sunny all his favorite hiding spots, and she taught him how to listen to the wind sing and how to spot fairy rings in the grass.
But by the third day, Leo was tired. He couldn't keep up with Sunny's adventures.
"I need energy," he panted.
Sunny smiled mysteriously. "Maybe you already have the answer to my riddle. What did you eat today?"
Leo thought. He'd skipped breakfast, refused his salad at lunch, and now felt weak.
That evening, Leo did something surprising. He ate all his spinach.
The next morning, his legs felt strong. His mind felt sharp. And when Sunny asked her riddle again, Leo shouted the answer:
"Healthy food!"
Sunny's wings glowed brighter than ever. "You solved it! And now, my friend, you have the greatest power of all."
She flew away in a sparkle of golden light, but that night, Leo found a gift under his pillow—a tiny silver sphinx pendant that glowed whenever he ate something healthy.
Now Leo still loves chocolate cookies, but he knows that spinach is what heroes eat. Because real friends help each other grow strong—and sometimes, they come in the most surprising shapes.
