The Sphinx's Green Secret

Leo stared at the spinach on his plate. It looked like a tiny green forest, and he wanted nothing to do with it.

"I wish this would just disappear," he whispered, poking it with his fork.

Suddenly, the spinach began to shimmer. From between the leaves popped a tiny creature—no bigger than Leo's hand—with the body of a lion and the head of a wise old person. A sphinx!

"Greetings, brave one!" squeaked the sphinx. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Great Pyramid of Courage. And you've just summoned me!"

"The Pyramid of what?" Leo asked, eyes wide.

"Come see!" Cleo waved her paw, and suddenly Leo's kitchen dissolved into sparkling light.

When the sparkles cleared, Leo found himself standing before an enormous golden pyramid. But this wasn't like the ones in books—this pyramid was underwater! Colorful fish darted around them, and seaweed swayed like dancing ribbons.

"Are we... swimming?" Leo gasped, realizing he could breathe perfectly.

"We are!" Cleo did a joyful flip through the water. "This pyramid holds something special. Each stone represents a child who was brave enough to try something new. See that one?" She pointed to a glowing blue stone. "That's from a girl who tried brussels sprouts. And that red one? A boy who learned to ride his bike without training wheels."

Leo swam closer to the pyramid. "But where's my stone?"

Cleo smiled. "That's why I'm here. You wished away your spinach without trying it. But what if it's actually wonderful?"

Leo thought about this. The sphinx had shown him a magical world just because he'd taken a chance and spoken his wish. What else was he missing by being afraid?

"Okay," Leo said. "I'll try it."

In an instant, he was back at his kitchen table. His mom was watching him, surprised. Leo took a deep breath, scooped up some spinach, and ate it.

His eyes lit up. "Hey! This tastes like... adventure!"

That afternoon, Leo told his best friend Sam all about the sphinx and the underwater pyramid. Sam looked at Leo like he was crazy, but then he took a bite of his own apple—a fruit he'd always refused to try—and grinned.

"Maybe I'm ready for an adventure too," Sam said.

And somewhere, far away, a tiny sphinx added two new stones to her pyramid, glowing bright green and red.
