The Sphinx's Green Riddle

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic, especially on rainy afternoons. That's where she found the golden pyramid—a tiny artifact that glowed when she touched it. Suddenly, the room spun, and Lily found herself in a desert under a sky full of twinkling stars.

Before her stood a magnificent pyramid, its stone surface shimmering like moonlight. At its base sat a sphinx with emerald eyes and wings like spun sunlight. "Welcome, young traveler," the sphinx purred gently. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Magic Pyramid. To return home, you must solve my riddle."

Lily's heart fluttered like a trapped butterfly, but she stood tall. "I'm ready!"

Cleo smiled. "What is green and leafy, makes you strong like a bull, and helps you grow tall and mighty?"

Lily thought hard. She imagined gardens and forests. Then she remembered what her grandma always said at dinner. "Spinach!" she exclaimed. "Popeye eats it to get strong, and my grandma says it's a superfood!"

The sphinx's emerald eyes sparkled with delight. "Correct! You are wise and brave." She pressed her paw to the pyramid, and a doorway of light appeared.

But before Lily could step through, a gentle bull with a coat like chocolate sundae approached. "Please," the bull said softly, "could you share the answer with my calf? He's too shy to ask."

Lily looked at the sphinx, who nodded approvingly. Lily knelt and told the young calf about spinach and how it could make him strong. The calf's eyes lit up with wonder.

"Thank you," the mother bull said. "You've shown kindness, which is the greatest strength of all."

As Lily stepped through the doorway of light, she heard Cleo's voice: "Remember, true strength comes from a brave heart and a kind spirit."

Lily woke up on the attic floor, the golden pyramid in her hand. From that day on, she never complained about eating spinach, and she always remembered: being strong meant being kind to others, just like a gentle bull who protects its friends.

Sometimes, on rainy afternoons, Lily still touches the pyramid, wondering if her friends in the magical desert are thinking of her too.
