The Sphinx's Green Magic Riddle
Lily always hated spinach. She pushed it around her plate every evening until her grandmother got tired of the vegetable battle.
"Eat your spinach," Grandma would say. "It gives you magical powers."
Lily rolled her eyes. But everything changed the night she found the glowing goldfish in her garden pond.
The goldfish wasn't ordinary. Its scales shimmered like tiny stars, and when it spoke, its voice sounded like wind chimes.
"I'm Finn," said the goldfish. "And I need your help. The Great Sphinx of Magic Mountain has forgotten all his riddles. Without riddles, he can't protect the enchanted forest from grumpy shadows."
Lily's eyes went wide. "How can I help?"
"The Sphinx needs something green and growing to remember his magic," Finn explained. "Do you know anything about green things?"
Lily thought about her garden, where spinach grew tall and leafy. "I know about spinach!"
Finn swam in excited circles. "Perfect! The Sphinx's magic works through imagination. Spinach represents growth and strength!"
They traveled to Magic Mountain, where an enormous stone Sphinx with magnificent flowing hair made of morning mist waited. His eyes were sad.
"I've forgotten who I am," the Sphinx rumbled.
Lily approached bravely. "You are the Guardian of Riddles!" She pulled fresh spinach leaves from her pocket. "This spinach grew from tiny seeds into something strong. Just like how riddles grow small thoughts into big ideas!"
The Sphinx's misty hair swirled with renewed energy. "Yes! I remember now! Riddles are the spinach of the mind—they make imagination grow strong!"
The Sphinx's laughter echoed across the mountain, and grumpy shadows scurried away. As a reward, he gave Lily a single golden scale that would make any vegetable taste like adventure.
From that day on, Lily ate every bite of spinach happily, knowing that like the Sphinx and his riddles, the green leaves were feeding her imagination and making her magic grow strong.
